Head of Outdoor Education and Duty Manager at UWCSEA Dover

Oliver joined UWCSEA in 2009. Educated at Ysgol Gyfun Gymreag Glantaf in Cardiff UK, he went on to study BSc Outdoor and Environmental Education at Liverpool John Moores University in 2001. He subsequently began a career in Outdoor Education initially working in inner-city London for a charity working with disaffected youth seeking to re-engage students with education. Following this, Oliver worked as a freelance Outdoor Instructor in South Wales and Expedition Leader in various locations across the world. In early 2009 Oliver was enjoying his freelance work and not seeking full time employment however was made aware of an opportunity at UWCSEA. The hook for Oliver was Project Week, the aspiration of UWCSEA for all it's students to go on Project week as the culmination of their Outdoor Education and Service programmes demonstrated the depth and commitment the college has to Outdoor Education and to doing it well. It has been a joy for Oliver to be a part of the continued development of the Outdoor Education programme as an Outdoor Education Specialist and now as the Head of Department on the Dover Campus. Oliver is really proud of the team and its commitment to providing a progressive Outdoor Education programme that supports the students practical skill development, learning about themselves, their relationships with others and connecting deeply to the natural world.

"The reason I am passionate about and continue to work at UWCSEA is because of the commitment and passion the organisation demonstrates to a holistic learning programme. This commitment to providing deep learning opportunities is my reason for working at UWCSEA."
